Taurus New Moon — Slow down, root down

Dear Reader,

The New Moon in Taurus arrived last night. As always, before we plant new seeds, I invite you to take a moment to look back at what this past cycle, from April 17th to May 16th, has brought you — if you haven’t already.

✎ What’s been here for you?

✎ What are you grateful for?

Guided by the New Moon in Taurus

The Moon renewed itself at 25 degrees of Taurus yesterday evening, May 16th, at 10:02 pm CEST, and with it, our relationship with our body and the body of the earth. It invites us to embrace and trust our senses, savor the goodness around us, and make something beautiful of our own. A New Moon in Taurus is special, because the Moon is exalted here, giving it extra strength and making this an especially fertile time for new beginnings.

Seeding new ideas

The New Moon sits with Mercury, the planet of the mind. Just two days before the New Moon, Mercury conjoined the Sun in a moment of mental regeneration, carrying that energy into this lunation. Still invisible under the Sun's beams, Mercury is seeding new ideas and plans in the dark, especially around what grounds us in our bodies and lives. When Mercury reemerges in the evening sky toward the end of May, what is quietly forming at this New Moon will come into fuller realization.

This is the first Taurus New Moon without Uranus in Taurus since 2018. After eight years of breakdowns and breakthroughs in the Taurus area of our charts and lives, we get a chance to integrate all that’s changed and find our footing again. And yet Uranus hasn’t gone far. Now in early Gemini, it might still bring a faint flicker of the unexpected to this otherwise steady, grounded New Moon.

When Mercury moves into Gemini today and conjoins Uranus tomorrow, life is likely to pick up speed, especially in the Gemini part of our charts. This is Mercury's initial meeting with Uranus, its guest, since Uranus entered Gemini last July — a first articulation of what this new era is about, in our lives and in the world at large. We may find ourselves feeling a lot more curious, adaptable, and open to new ideas and perspectives than we thought possible.

A little TLC please

Venus, the ruler of this New Moon, is currently in Gemini (Mercury’s sign) — in mutual reception with Mercury in Taurus (Venus’s sign). Each is hosting the other, deepening the exchange between mind and heart, and making this a good time for putting into words how we feel and for connecting with others through curiosity.

Venus is moving toward a sextile with Mars in Aries, bringing a desire for warmth and creative spark. But Mars is conjoined Chiron (exact May 16th), so that desire may come from a raw, tender place. We may feel vulnerable around our desire — or notice vulnerability in someone we care for. Either way, this is a time for tender loving care, directed inward and outward.

On May 19th, both Venus and Mars change signs. Venus moves into Cancer and begins its copresence with Jupiter, who will infuse our relationships and creative lives with joy and meaning. Mars enters Taurus, leaving behind its charged copresence with Saturn and Neptune in Aries since April 9th, and building toward its cathartic square with Pluto at the end of May. The Venus-Mars sextile perfects that same day, with Mars now in Venus's own sign.
