Balsamic Moon Circle

A lunar closing practice

What?

  • A gathering to round out each lunar cycle, held in the quiet of the dark before the New Moon.

  • A place to turn inward, together.

  • Think of it as your monthly housekeeping: a time to reflect, release, and make space for what’s waiting.

When?

  • We come together once a month from 6 to 7 pm Central European Time.

  • Because we follow the lunar calendar, the day of the week varies from month to month. Next up is Monday, July 13th.

  • Not sure when that is for you? You can find your local start time here.

Where?

  • We meet on Zoom, wherever you are.

  • When you sign up, you’ll receive a welcome email with a recurring link to join.

  • You’ll also get a reminder three days before and another on the day of each circle.

How?

  • We say hi and take a moment to settle in.

  • You have time to look back on the past cycle, with a few journaling questions to guide you.

  • There’s a chance to connect one-on-one in a breakout room, or you can stay in a room of your own.

  • We come back together, and anyone who wants to can share with the group.

  • I leave you with a poem — a little something for the road.

  • And off you go into the new lunar cycle!

Why?

  • Every lunar cycle grows out of the one before it. By reflecting on the closing cycle, we compost what emerged over the past month, preparing the soil for what’s to come. It’s what allows our New Moon intentions to take root.

  • It can be hard to stay connected to our practices, especially when there’s a lot going on. And yet, that’s when we need them the most. Having people to practice with and a familiar flow to follow make showing up for ourselves so much easier.

More about the Moon

What is the Balsamic Moon?

The Balsamic Moon, or Waning Crescent, is the closing chapter of the lunar cycle, lasting three to four days before the Moon is renewed. During this time, the Moon withdraws its light, inviting us to slow down and sit with what’s been unfolding over the past month. The word “balsamic” comes from “balsam” — an aromatic tree resin burned as incense — evoking an offering of gratitude for what the cycle has brought.

What is the lunar cycle?

The lunar cycle is the twenty-nine-and-a-half-day journey from New Moon to New Moon. The Moon spends the first half of its cycle growing in light, and the second half fading back to dark. With each cycle, the Moon moves through eight phases: New, Crescent, First Quarter, Gibbous, Full, Disseminating, Third Quarter, and Balsamic, only to begin again. It tells a story of birth, growth, fullness, decay, disappearance, and rebirth — a story as old as life itself.

Why follow the Moon?

Humans have been telling time by the Moon for at least tens of thousands of years — “moon” and “month” actually share the same root. Living by the lunar cycle is less about learning something new and more about remembering what we’ve always known. It returns us to an ancient rhythm, helping us know what time it is, and whether to reach, release, or rest.
