Time to lie down with your feelings at the Scorpio New Moon
Hello friends,
It’s the day of the New Moon, when one cycle closes and another opens. If you haven’t already, I invite you to join me in honoring the old cycle (October 21st – November 20th) with some reflection and journaling. Looking back, I feel grateful for having a washing machine again, for asteroid insights, relaxing riverside walks, and nails shimmering like stardust.

Guided by the New Moon in Scorpio
The Moon joined the Sun at 28 degrees of Scorpio for a potent New Moon this morning at 7:48 am Central European Time (check your local time here), setting a watery, introspective tone for the cycle ahead.
This New Moon arrives late in Scorpio season, which coincides with mid-fall in the Northern Hemisphere. As the Sun's arc dips ever lower in the sky, darkness steadily descends. This is Scorpio’s invitation: to meet ourselves in the dark and, in the words of Chris in the Morning (who might have been born with the Moon in Scorpio), to "lie down with our pain".
Conjoined with the New Moon is retrograde Mercury, being reanimated in the heart of the Sun. With both the Moon and Mercury beginning new cycles in Scorpio, this is a time for deep contemplation. If we listen closely, we can receive vital insights into what we’ve been avoiding and what’s been holding us back from being our most vulnerable, honest, and open selves.
The New Moon and Mercury complete a grand trine with Jupiter in Cancer and Saturn and Neptune both in Pisces, helping us connect with our inner awareness, intuition, and imagination, and cultivate greater empathy for ourselves and others.
This grand water trine has been our backdrop since mid-October and will continue through mid-December, with Mars, Mercury, the Sun, and Venus moving through Scorpio in sequence. With so much water, it’s essential that we take time for ourselves and our feelings and create soulful containers that can hold greater care and facilitate healing for ourselves and others.
But that’s not all. The New Moon and Mercury oppose Uranus in Taurus, while Uranus is in harmonious relationship with Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune (forming sextiles). Uranus’ involvement will wake us up to anything we’ve been in denial about or resisting, and we’re ready to feel and process now. It makes emotional honesty unavoidable and can help us find new ways to explore, experience, and express our full range of feelings.
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are all retrograde, with all except Jupiter having returned to their previous signs — back to where they were at the beginning of the year. With Mercury cazimi at the New Moon, we have an opportunity to take a step back from what’s been unfolding over the past months and rewrite any storylines that will no longer serve our becoming once the outer planets all settle into their new signs for years to come: Saturn in Aries until 2028, Uranus in Gemini until 2033, Neptune in Aries until 2039, and Pluto in Aquarius until 2044.
Mars, the ruler of Scorpio and the guiding deity of this New Moon, is in Sagittarius, echoing Mercury’s retrograde cycle in Scorpio and Sagittarius, and the New Moon occurring in the late degrees of Scorpio, with the Moon about to change signs — all creating a bridge between these two energies. For Sagittarius's hope to be meaningful, Scorpio must look reality in the eye. True hope requires inner depth; otherwise, it’s just wishful thinking.
