Libra New Moon — Time to tend your heart space
Dear reader,
The New Moon in Libra is almost here — the first of two back-to-back lunations ruled by retrograde Venus. As always, before the New Moon arrives, I invite you to round out the current lunar cycle (September 11th – October 10th) with some gentle reflection.
✎ What was here for you?
✎ What are you grateful for?

Guided by the New Moon in Libra & Venus retrograde
The Moon renews itself at 17 degrees of Libra on October 10th at 5:50 pm CEST, and with it, our ways of relating, finding beauty, and embodying grace. Libra reminds us that we are each other and that we’re never alone. Libra knows that beauty is magic because it gets us out of our heads and into our hearts. Libra shows us how to reach out and ask for grace to enter our lives.
The New Moon just opposed retrograde Saturn in Aries and is about to sextile Jupiter in Leo. This makes me curious about where we’re feeling rejected by others when we might actually be abandoning ourselves or withholding beauty and grace from ourselves, and where we have an opening to let ourselves be more fully seen for who we truly are and give of ourselves more generously.
Venus, the ruler of Libra and the New Moon, is retrograde in Scorpio. Venus has been shining bright in the western sky after sunset for most of the year. For now, you might still spot her low in the west, sinking closer to the horizon each evening. Around October 19th, Venus disappears into the glare of the Sun, then reappears in the eastern sky before dawn around October 29th. This is Venus’s interior conjunction with the Sun, exact on October 24th, when she passes between the Earth and Sun.
While Venus retraces her path (October 3rd – November 14th), we’re invited to come into our heart space. With Venus retrograde in Scorpio and squaring both Mars in Leo and Pluto in Aquarius, it looks like we’re under pressure to dig down deep into what pains us, lovingly tend to the tender places, and bravely befriend the ghosts of our past.
Venus goes retrograde in the same sign or signs every eight years. You can look back to October and November of 2018, 2010, 2002, and so on, as far back as you'd like, to explore how this time now rhymes with those earlier times in your life.
The New Moon in Libra & you
To work with the New Moon in your own chart and life, find the house where you have Libra, the sign of the New Moon. It shows where you’re ready for a new beginning — and where you’re invited to mine love in your relationships, reclaim your interbeingness, and remember that grace is something you can ask for.
If you have any planets or angles at or near 17 degrees of Libra — or Aries, Cancer, or Capricorn — or if you’re in a Libra profection year, this New Moon may pull on you more.
The best times to set your intentions for the New Moon are from October 10th at 5:50 pm to October 11th at 1:07 am, and from October 11th at 5:21 pm to October 12th at 5:50 pm CEST (convert to your local time here). As always, I invite you to write down what you wish to bring into your life this month and over the next six months — guided by the wisdom of Libra and the themes of your Libra house.
✎ What’s making you feel closer to others?
✎ Who knows and loves you best?
✎ Where are you finding beauty these days?
✎ What’s your heart unearthing?
✎ What carries you back to belonging?
Until next time...
I’m looking forward to writing to you again as we draw closer to the Full Moon in Taurus on October 26th at 5:11 am CET — the second lunation in a row ruled by retrograde Venus. It marks the halfway point of this lunar cycle and the peak of lunar light, when, with a little luck, what we seed at the New Moon unfolds into bloom.
In the meantime, you can take the questions from this letter with you on your walk, into your journal, or wherever else feels right. I hope they tickle you and help you weave yourself into the mystery of this Libra New Moon.
A note on time zones: Every date is in Central European (Summer) Time, so depending on where you are in the world, it could be a day off. You can use the links to find your local time.
