Gemini New Moon — Your answers are within
Dear Reader,
The New Moon in Gemini is here — the third in a series of five Super New Moons and the closest New Moon to Earth this year. As always, before we plant new seeds, I invite you to take a moment to prepare the soil by gathering and composting what this past Taurus lunar cycle, from May 16th to June 15th, has brought you — if you haven’t already.

Guided by the New Moon in Gemini
The Moon renewed itself at 24 degrees of Gemini on June 15th at 4:55 am CEST, and with it, our sense of curiosity, our desire for learning, and our need to connect and communicate. This is our first Gemini New Moon with Uranus also in Gemini, amplifying Gemini’s excitable and restless nature. It opens up the part of the sky — and of our birth charts — that’ll be activated by Mars in late June and early July, bringing unexpected change and fated turns.

Pillow talk
The New Moon is hosted by Mercury in Cancer, the Moon’s own sign, where the messenger will stay for more than two months due to its retrograde cycle — unusually long for a planet that typically moves through a sign in two to three weeks. This is part of a broader pattern this year of Mercury retrograding in water signs, spending more time in the three water signs than all other nine signs combined — offering windows to slow down, turn inward, and feel our way through a turbulent year marked by fire and air.
Sensitive, intuitive, and receptive, Mercury in Cancer attunes us to what's moving within us and how our words are landing for others. It draws us back to what came before, still present in us now, and orients us toward what’s familiar and beloved. Here we speak tenderly, from feeling rather than thinking — less interested in being clever than in being true. Here we learn to trust what we know before we know how we know it. Here we allow others to be heard and ourselves to be moved by what we hear. This is the pillow talk register: unhurried, close, honest.
Not so quick
Mercury is copresent with exalted Jupiter in Cancer, moving toward it like a student approaching their teacher. But before Mercury can reach Jupiter, it slows down and turns retrograde. Something promising is pulled back before it can get here. In life, this might look like reversals, broken promises, or plans that don't hold. A beneficial connection almost made, but not quite. Not yet.
Mercury and Jupiter will eventually meet in mid-August, but in Leo, and on new terms. Jupiter will move on from Cancer's quieter waters into Leo's warmth and expressive light in late June, and Mercury will follow in early August, having turned over Cancer's emotional ground again and again, arriving ready in a way it simply isn't now.
Step by step
Mercury entered Cancer, the sign of its retrograde, on June 1st, opening a storyline that will unfold through early August. It entered its pre-retrograde shadow at 16 degrees of Cancer on June 12th. Whatever memories, ideas, or plans surface over the next two and a half weeks, we’ll likely revisit as Mercury retrogrades over this same area of the sky — and of our charts.
Mercury will station retrograde at 26 degrees of Cancer, appearing to move backward in the sky, on June 29th, short of conjoining Jupiter. Whatever emerged earlier in the month may now return for review. The Sun will conjoin Mercury at 20 degrees of Cancer on July 13th, marking the halfway point of the retrograde and offering a moment of illumination.
Mercury will station direct at 16 degrees of Cancer on July 24th, covering that same ground for a third and final time — an invitation to put what we’ve learned into practice. It will leave its post-retrograde shadow at 26 degrees of Cancer on August 7th and exit Cancer on August 9th, drawing the full storyline to a close.
Whatever house in your birth chart holds Cancer is where you’ll be revisiting questions around home, chosen family, and emotional wellbeing for much of the summer, and where introspection and reflection will matter most. If you have any planets or angles between 16 and 26 degrees of Cancer, or if you’re in a Cancer profection year, this Mercury retrograde will feel more personal to you.
