Time to work with what we have in new ways during Virgo season
Dear Reader,
I’m writing to you on a cooler, overcast day, sipping green tea and nibbling on chocolate. The weather feels like a welcome relief from the heat earlier this month and is giving fall vibes for sure. Being a child of Virgo season, I love this transitional time of year when everything is radiating warmth and beginning to turn golden.
What are you noticing in your surroundings?
How are you experiencing this time of year?
Guided by the Sun in Virgo
As the Sun is traveling through Virgo from August 22nd to September 22nd, summer is giving way to fall and we’re fast approaching the dark half of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. This season is all about savoring the last light of summer while preparing for fall and winter.
Virgo, the virgin (one who is whole unto themselves), is a mutable earth sign and the home and exaltation of Mercury, the planet of the mind. The Sun in Virgo is practical, perceptive, and precise and signifies a season of placing our attention on the details of our lives and understanding what is working well, and why, and remedying what is not.
Shadow Virgo can get lost in overthinking, overanalyzing, or worrying way too much. If you find yourself spinning out, it’s time to pause. Tidy up a small space in your home, do a somatic practice, or connect with animals or plants to help balance your body and mind.
Are you a child of Virgo season, having been born during this time of year?
How do you relate to Virgo’s way of being in the world?
What makes this Virgo season special

Tomorrow’s New Moon is the first of two Virgo New Moons, with the second one also being an eclipse. This first New Moon carries us into the next eclipse season — a 6-week period of rapid change, renewal, and release. It features a Lunar Eclipse at 15 degrees of Pisces on September 7th and a Solar Eclipse at 29 degrees of Virgo on September 21st.
Because eclipses have a 19-year cycle, this is a good time to look back at 2006, when we had eclipses at the same degrees (and also two Virgo New Moons). What was happening in your life then, and how does it relate to your life now, especially when it comes to the Virgoan realms of health, work, and practical magic?
What is ready to complete in your life?
What is ready to wake up?
Where are you turning a corner?

On September 1st, Saturn retrogrades back into Pisces. The teacher planet will be closing out a chapter of learning related to the Piscean realms of mystery, imagination, and intuition — a chapter that started in March 2023, when Saturn first moved into Pisces, and will end on February 14th, when Saturn leaves Pisces for good.
Look back at the last two-and-a-half years and reflect on the emotional and spiritual lessons you’ve been learning, especially when it comes to the areas of life signified by the Pisces house in your birth chart.
What dreams are you still committed to?
How are you finding structure in fluidity?
Saturn’s return to Pisces is starting a wider trend of slower-moving planets moving back into their previous signs for a last time (with Neptune returning to Pisces between October and January and Uranus returning to Taurus between November and April) and prompting us to turn our attention towards completion and integration for the rest of the year and into the beginning of next year — before we’re moving into a whole new reality.
Exploring new paths with the New Moon in Virgo
On August 23rd at 8:07 am, the Moon conjoins with the Sun at 0 degrees of Virgo for the New Moon, closely squaring Uranus in Gemini and rooting the lunar cycle that follows in the energy of “anything is possible”. This New Moon is here to surprise and re-route us, get us past our own resistance, and awaken us to new ways of being in our body and in the world.
The best time for casting your New Moon wishes are between August 23rd at 8:07 am to August 25th at 3:54 pm. Write down what you’re most wanting to help happen this lunar cycle, especially as it relates to the wisdom of Virgo and the topics of life signified by the Virgo house in your birth chart.
What habits do you want to break away from?
What routines and rituals would create more freedom in your life?
Where are you willing to take the risk of being more true to yourself?
Ready to draw summer to a close?
I invite you to take some of the questions sprinkled throughout this newsletter on your walk or into your journal, your dreamtime, or any other kind of creative or contemplative practice, either solo or with others. I hope they tickle you and help you gently move into fall.
What have been your favorite summer moments?
What is working well?
What needs adjusting in your life?
What is helping you be in the here-and-now-moment?
How are you here to help?
Until next time...
I’m looking forward to writing to you again during Libra season, which sees the beginning of fall in the Northern Hemisphere and heralds a time of reflection and reorientation. The Sun enters Libra on September 22nd at 8:20 pm.
As always, you can find at a glance the exact dates and times of the eight yearly stations of the Sun in this little table here. I hope it helps you live and create in harmony with your home star and the rhythm of the seasons.
In the meantime, I’m wishing you gifts of clarity and understanding wherever you are!
