Time to let yourself feel at the Cancer Super Full Moon

Soft clouds in a hazy winter sky, with pale blue showing through near the horizon and warm cream tones above

Dear Reader,

Today’s Full Moon, the first of the year, is a Super Moon coinciding with perihelion—the Moon at its closest to the Earth, the Earth at its closest to the Sun, bringing all three unusually close as we start the new year.

It arrives midway through Capricorn season, when the light begins its slow return after the Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, and we’re invited to drop into stillness, opening ourselves to receive dreams for the year ahead.

Guided by the Super Full Moon in Cancer

The Full Moon peaks at 13 degrees of Cancer today, January 3rd. In its home sign, conjoined with exalted Jupiter in Cancer, this bright Full Moon is here to help us be in our feelings and allow others to be in theirs—as a way of caring for ourselves and each other.

By being emotionally truthful, we get to live from the inside out—creating lives that reflect who we truly are, not who we think we should be. Initiating us into 2026, this Cancer Full Moon is inviting us to follow our feelings as we map out our plans for the year ahead.

The Full Moon is closely opposing Venus and Mars in Capricorn. While Venus is confronting us with our desire to love and be loved, wanting that love to be consistent and lasting, Mars is testing our inner strength to stay with what pains us and let it remind us just how much we care.

Venus and Mars are both in the heart of the Sun, invisible, approaching their synodic resets. While Mars is about to shift from evening star to morning star, Venus is about to shift from morning star to evening star.

This triple conjunction of the Sun, Venus, and Mars, perfecting between January 6th and 9th, offers a moment of clarification about what’s ending and what’s beginning when it comes to interpersonal relationships and our relationship to our own desire, values, passion, drive, and creativity.

We’re invited to honor what’s ending in the Capricorn part of our birth charts, composting old ways of relating and creating, and to listen for the new creative and interpersonal directions wanting to emerge once Venus and Mars rise into visibility again in February (Venus) and March (Mars).
